“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!”

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭107:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“The Lord is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭145:9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The repeating phrase in all the Scriptures is the Lord is good.

This phrase that God is good is common among believers. Most of the time when we say it, God has done something great in our lives.

But what about times when we don’t see anything good and situations say otherwise?

Despite what we go through, the Lord is constantly good. The God that we worship is constantly good and faithful.

1. God is omnipotent
2. God is omnipresent
3. God is all loving
4. God is omniscient

God knows what is happening in our lives and has the power to change our situations. He is a loving Father. This forms the goodness of God.

Reality: We are living in one of the challenging times of our lives.

But then bring that reality to the reality of who God is.

The reality is that we are all facing difficulties and challenges. How can we still then come to the conclusion that God is good?

We question if God is really good. How can we still trust that He is a good God?

All His intentions and motives and pure and perfect. The outcome of His plans and what He does is always and constantly good.

However, the way we define good may be different from what God says is good. This is where the difficulty lies.

It is maturity to say God is good regardless of circumstances.

What is the definition of ‘God is good’ then?

Good is what God approves._There is no higher standard than what He says in His character and is consistent with His behavior. _God knows best.

We need to come to a point in understanding the goodness of God.

Understanding God’s Goodness

God’s goodness doesn’t mean we will agree with all He does. His ways are higher than our ways. (Isaiah 55: 8-9)

David was running for his life from Saul after His great victory. He even had to run to the Philistines territory and finally ended up in a cave. We sometimes have no where to run.

In that cave was the birth of place of Psalms 34. David was in a place of brokenness but yet sang His trust in God. Even when David didn’t see it coming, He still sang of God’s goodness.

Whatever we are going through can become a place of birthing a new song, trusting God and His goodness.

A mark of a true Christian is one who remains unshakable in trusting the goodness of God despite what may happen.

When we have it in our mind that we worship God because He is God, our belief system changes. Out Christian walk becomes a walk of maturity.

How do we respond to this goodness of God?

It is to respond with praise and worship.

Will we praise for God for who He is regardless of circumstances? Focus on who God is and everything we hope for will come to us.

David was a successful king because he understood responding in praise and worship. Don’t chase after the goodness of God but the God of goodness.

When you respond to the God of goodness, His goodness will chase us.

We need to come to a place of trusting Him and acknowledging with all our heart and in all our ways. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

God is more than enough for all of us.
We fail to trust God sometimes because we fail to recognize His voice (John 10:27).

The voice of the Father brings comfort when we recognize His voice, which leads us to trust Him.

We may not see or feel Him but we can always hear His Voice. His voice is in His Word, His love letter to us.

We also sometimes feel distant from God. Job felt this way. Job in spite of circumstances said this:

“Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him. Even so, I will defend my own ways before Him.”
‭‭Job‬ ‭13:15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Even after His difficult time, Job stood steady. And the Lord raised Him up again with His goodness.

Whatever is happening in our lives is not to break you but to make you.

We often fail to trust God cause we treat God like a genie in a lamp, asking something from God. We treat God like a vending machine.

God works in His own mysterious ways. He is not our pet. He is our Father.

The Christian walk is a walk of communion and relationship with the Father.

We may lost everything but we still have God. And He loves you.
