A Call To Serve

Speaker:
Service Type:

God is inviting the entire church to rebuilding the church and putting our hand to the plough.

Serving, in various different ways, is an expression of your worship and love to God.

What is the Biblical concept of serving?

“And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭25:8-9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The Lord spoke to the people to build a sanctuary for Himself. In the Old Testament, God dwelt in certain places.

God asked them to build a tabernacle for God to dwell in among the people. The tabernacle was always on the move as they went from place to place.

This requires a lot of energy, time and teamwork to build the tabernacle. In the concept of the early church, God was already moving to work together with the people.

Church is not a one man show but a team play. Every person has certain roles when ministering to God. Each plays a part in stewarding the presence of God and His presence being manifest.

What can we learn from this?

Every Christian plays in the role of the church. We are all important in the house of God.

All of us are equally important as the one who preaches, who worship leads, etc.

We all can feel like we can’t contribute anything. However…

“Everything in the world is about to be wrapped up, so take nothing for granted. Stay wide-awake in prayer. Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homeless—cheerfully. Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God’s words; if help, let it be God’s hearty help. That way, God’s bright presence will be evident in everything through Jesus, and he’ll get all the credit as the One mighty in everything—encores to the end of time. Oh, yes!”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭4:7-11‬ ‭MSG‬‬

When you feel like you have nothing to give, find a need and serve there.

You may feel unequipped or imperfect but God equips us for serving

“Pray for us. We have no doubts about what we’re doing or why, but it’s hard going and we need your prayers. All we care about is living well before God. Pray that we may be together soon. May God, who puts all things together, makes all things whole, Who made a lasting mark through the sacrifice of Jesus, the sacrifice of blood that sealed the eternal covenant, Who led Jesus, our Great Shepherd, up and alive from the dead, Now put you together, provide you with everything you need to please him, Make us into what gives him most pleasure, by means of the sacrifice of Jesus, the Messiah. All glory to Jesus forever and always! Oh, yes, yes, yes.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13:18-21‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Serving always has to do with God and serving others.

God is not inviting us to cooperate with Him and others but to collaborate with Him and each other.

“For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.”
‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭12:12-18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

In the church, when everything functions in different ways but unto one goal, the body of Christ is healthy.

Three Reasons Why We Should Serve God.

1. Serving is part of our identity as Christ followers (Mark 10:45)

2. Serving promotes a healthy body as a church. We all need to be of one spirit. (Romans 12:4-6, 1 Corinthians 12:27)

3. Serving opens up blessings for others people and your family (2 Kings 4). Serving is a legacy you will leave behind. This is the case of the widow’s husband who served the Lord and which later caused a blessing to come upon his family when she filled all the pots with the little oil she had. Your oil will never run dry when you serve. It opens a blessing to your family and the generations to come.
