Book Of Acts- Outpouring of the Holy Spirit over the Gentiles

Series:
Service Type:

The book of Acts 10 has 3 characters:
The Holy Spirit, the centurion, and Peter.

Before that let’s go to this verse:

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.”
‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭12:13-14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

These are two essential principles for Christian living.

We are called to fear and obey God.

Cornelius (the centurion) feared the Lord, though He was a gentile.

“There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!””
‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:1-3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Two visions are outlined in this book. One belonged to Cornelius and the other Peter.

The fear of God is the first principal. It is what helps us to continue the Book of Acts in our lives. (Matthew 10: 29-31). The fear of God is the awareness of His mindfulness towards us. Living with this in mind allows us to live in a referential way to God, practicing the fear of God and being aware of His presence at all times, (Genesis 6:8, Psalm 16:8).

The benefit of the fear of the Lord is:
1. Confidence and life. (Proverbs 14:26-27)
2. Godly hatred of evil. (Proverbs 8:13)
3. Healing and keeping the family together. (Psalm 128: 1-3)
4. Humility and fear of the Lord brings honour and life. (Proverbs 22:4)

The second principal is found with Peter:

“The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:9-16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God told Peter that the Gospel was meant for the whole world and the Gentiles. Peter instantly obeyed and preached.

The second principal is non-negotiable obedience to God.

We have three kinds of obedience:

1. Prideful obedience
2. Begrudging obedience
3. Heart felt obedience (which Peter demonstrated (Hebrews 12: 1-2)

Part II: ‘Outpouring of the Holy Spirit over the Gentiles.’

Speaker: Pastor Jonathan Chandra

Every outpouring of the Holy Spirit began with a man or woman who was available to the Holy Spirit.

This was the epic moment where the law and grace meet in Acts 10 and the Holy Spirit was poured out on the Gentiles.

“While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered, “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:44-48‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The Lord wants us to come into a personal revival. He wants us to come out of this season of the pandemic with a personal revival in our hearts, ready to do the will of the Father when He pours out His Spirit.

We want the Lord to do the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our generation again. We are made for the more of God. We do well when we have that hunger for the more of God.

4 Non-Negotiables for Personal Revival:

1. Repent (Psalm 51:10)
2. Every doubtful way between you and God must go. (Rev 2,3,4)
3. Move in forgiveness. The most important thing is not to quench or grief the Holy Spirit.
4. Public confession of Christ.

God is purifying our hearts and jealousy setting us towards Him. The people in the book of Acts moved as Jesus lovers, effective for His Kingdom. So must we.
