Building A Strong House

Speaker:
Service Type:

Today we’ll be going to the parable of the two builders.

In our lives there may be different cracks. We waste a lot of time trying to patch the cracks rather than dealing with the foundations; the root problems with the foundations.

““Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:24-27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Looking into our spiritual lives, we need to strengthen the foundations in order to stop the cracks in our house.

A HOUSE can represent many things such as:

1. Your life
2. Your family
3. Your ministry
4. A society and or community

Both men in the parable wanted to build the house. Both men heard the same message from Jesus and were likely from the same environment. Both had to face storms in their lives.

The difference was that one was wise and one was a fool. We can be listening to the same message and we will face storms. But what is the difference between a wise and foolish man?

A wise man builds his house on the rock while a foolish on the sand.

“For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”
‭‭James‬ ‭1:23-25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The wise man isn’t just a listener but a doer of the Word and applies the Word of God in our lives. The foolish man doesn’t apply the Word of God in their lives.

The listening of the Word of God alone doesn’t release the power of God. Information and knowledge alone isn’t good enough.

Would we do life according to His instructions?

Success comes from doing the Word of God. (James 1:25)

This foundation that we build in our lives is crucial. The ones who go through storms and still praise God have a strong foundation.

Everything pertaining to life, family, ministry and society is in the Bible. Yet we do not apply the Word and the foundation isn’t strong.

The two builders had beautiful houses. Everything will look good until a storm comes. The storm revealed who had the stronger foundation.

Sometimes storms are a part of God’s plan to show us where our foundation is not strong.

“On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭4:35-39‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Jesus said they would make it to the other side in the passage from Mark. The fisherman were terrified in the storm and sought out Jesus. They had to shake Jesus awake. But Jesus asked why they were afraid and had no faith. They had forgotten that Jesus said they would reach the other side.

Regardless of what storms come our way, what Jesus said will come to pass. Jesus had spoken the Word and all the disciples just had to do was obey and do the Word of God.

The devil isn’t scared about the information we have but he is terrified of people who listen and apply the Word of God.

All we need to do is to build our foundation on Jesus. The rock we build our house on is Jesus.
