God Loves a Cheerful Giver
Pastor Derrick:
“But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.”
II Corinthians 9:6-7 NKJV
To give to the Lord should be a celebration rather than a sacrifice. He is the Lord who provides for us and will come through for us.
It is always better to give than to receive.
It is never how much you can give unto God but the how (heart posture) we give unto God. God is more interested in the state of our heart. He loves a cheerful giver.
How do we give cheerfully? The world has taught us that the more we have, the more happy we are.
The Kingdom is the opposite. The more we give, the more we receive.
Our value is based on what Jesus has done for us and He will take care of our needs. We are giving unto the Lord.
Giving with purpose means giving with intention from our hearts. Giving should be a privilege and not an obligation.
We don’t give because we have. We give because we are blessed. God can take your little and make it plenty. This is found in the miracle of the multiplication of the the loaves of bread and fish.
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.”
II Corinthians 9:8 NKJV
God causes His grace (favour, blessing) to abound towards us.
God is able to cause all grace to abound, create all sufficiency and us to have an abundance for every good work in us when we trust in Him.
Rev Benedict Rajan:
“I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ””
Acts 20:35 NKJV
“Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God.”
II Corinthians 9:10-11 NKJV
How does our giving affect us?
God’s method of increasing our blessings and finances is different from the world. This pandemic hasn’t affected the promises of God.
_ Spiritual Results of Giving_
1. He is Jehovah Jireh. He supplies the seed and is the source. We give from what He gives to us. Trust God with our finances. Heaven has no lack. We connect to the blessings of God by faith in our giving. (Philippians 4:19).
2. He multiplies the seed we have sown. Whatever is given stands to be multiplied. (Acts 20:35, Luke 6:38) Giving increases the fruit of our righteousness. (Isaiah 32:17, 3 John 1:2, Matthew 11:28)
3. He enriches us in everything. (2 Corinthians 9:8). Generosity will become our best friend. (Ephesians 1:3).
4. He causes thanksgiving in us. (1 Thessalonians 5: 18)
