Keep Your Fire Burning

Speaker:
Service Type:

Let us be persuaded to keep our fire burning not only now but also for year 2022. To allow God to cause the fire to burn. God gives us the fire but it is our responsibility to keep it burning.

Our fires are all at different states and sizes. The state of this fire is totally dependent on the individual.

What does it mean to keep our fire burning?

“And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings. A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out.”
‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭6:12-13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

This is an instruction that God Himself gave to Moses for the Levitical priests in the Old Testament.

In the New Testatment, God makes us a royal priesthood. This keeping the fire burning applies to us.

The problem we have is that we don’t guard and steward this fire.

a. The Fire Shall Always Be Kept Burning
1. We need oil, our own oil. (Matthew 25 1:13) We need to cultivate our own oil so that our fire can be kept burning. We can’t be living on someone else’s encounter and revelation of God. We need our own oil in order to grow and mature as Christians.

2. We need a fresh supply. A daily connection and relationship with God. We can’t live on the history of encounters with God but a now encounter with God.

3. We cannot rely on other’s oil. We won’t go far. Let’s keep the main thing the main thing which is Jesus.

b. The Fire Shall Not Be Put Out But Always Burning

1. There must be consistency in our walk with God. Consistency starts when no one is around and it is between us and God. God is always consistent in His nature. We are consistent because He first loved us. Our love language to God comes in our expression of reading His Word, praying, obeying His Word etc.

c. Wood Shall Be Added to the Fire Every Morning

1. Add the right wood into the fire. We have too many “cold logs” in our fire. We need the Holy Spirit to identify those “cold logs” (such as secret sins, addictions etc) that diminishes our fire (2 Timothy 2:22)We are made to be ministers of fire. (Psalm 104:4) Wood is symbolic of life. God wants us to our offer our lives, thoughts and actions to God so that the fire can be kept burning. Some of it those “cold logs” could also be our character and attitude. Offense is one of them. Can we stop the pity party and having a picnic with the devil? Can we have a picnic with Jesus? Busyness is another. Can we be too busy for God? Being busy with career, serving God, money and things of the world doesn’t mean we are growing. Chase after God (the permanent) and all the blessings (temporal stuff) will be added to us. Our pride and ego, being unteachable can become our downfall as well.

Let’s offer our lives back to God again.
