Overcoming Authority in Overwhelming Times
God is not asking us to be superhuman in these challenging times but to walk with authority in these overwhelming times.
For us to build a spiritually big church, we need to invest and grow spiritually big people.
“Now it happened in the process of time that the king of Egypt died. Then the children of Israel groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry came up to God because of the bondage.”
Exodus 2:23 NKJV
God didn’t bring deliverance for 400 plus years. Why did God take so long? They had lost their sense of authority being in bondage for so long under Pharoah.
The authority they once had under the previous Pharoah due to the influence of Joseph, was gone. God wanted them to work out taking back their authority that the previously had.
1. There is a need for authority in the church that needs to be taken back. Just because of circumstances, we don’t need to live without authority. We can live in victory. God was restoring their authority to Israel (Exodus 4:1 -3) The everyday object of the rod of Moses had became filled with authority. God asking Moses to throw the stick down and it becoming a serpent (symbol of authority in Pharaoh’s crown; god of harvest, economy, fertility, life, power, authority ) and Moses picking it back up was a picture of the restoration of the authority of Israel (Psalm 110:2, Exodus 4: 4-5) Even grabbing the tail of the snake speaks of us doing the easy part (Moses stepping out) and God dealing with the head of the snake and the difficult part (deliverance of Egypt). We aren’t meant to be a slave but a ruler over our circumstances and take back our authority. (Colossians 1:13). Your deliverance will come when you start walking in your authority.
2. There is always a threat to our authority and it’s always a religious spirit. (Genesis 3:1) The enemy always twists even something seemingly good for evil. Genesis 3:1’s ‘LORD God’ means YAHWEH (intimate, personal covenant God) and ELOHIM (power). The enemy removing intimacy removes our authority because we have no relationship with God. We are left with the religious spirit, demanding answers more than relationship.
3. The position of authority in Christ (Luke 10:19) How do we live it out? (Ephesians 1: 18-19, Ephesians 2:6) We are seated with Christ in the heavenly places at His right hand, with all authority.
In Numbers 21, when they were bitten by snakes, if they kept looking at the pain of the bite, they died. But looking at the bronze circumstances (a picture of God’s judgment) brought healing. God has already judged the problem through the person of Jesus. (John 3:14, 16)
Come back to relationship with Jesus rather than needs. Come back to Jesus. Take back your authority.
