Book Of Acts- The Outpouring

Service Type:

“And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.””
‭‭Acts‬ ‭1:4-5, 8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The whole book of Acts talks of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church. There was a tension between the promise of the Holy Spirit being poured out and it’s fulfillment. There were two things Jesus told them to do as they waited for the Holy Spirit.

These are the two same things we should do as we believe and contend for the third Pentecost.

1. Stay planted where you are at. Stay faithful and hopeful in anticipation of the promise to come.

2. Be united and one, contending for the pouring out of the Holy Spirit.

Why do we need this outpouring and to contend for the move of the Holy Spirit?

1. The multitudes will hear the sound

When the sound of a rushing wind from heaven comes in the third Pentecost, it will attract the people, the broken, those who need Jesus etc will suddenly be aware of the sound of heaven and their need for Jesus. Nobody will be able to ignore that sound.

There is a sound of a rushing, mighty wind in every believer and church. Have we lost it because of discouragement, disappointment and circumstances? When that sound comes, people will come alive and multitudes will come to Jesus.

We as the church need to make that sound for the nations to hear. This is why we are contending for the third Pentecost.
This outpouring of the Holy Spirit is for all (Acts 2:6) As the church we need to rise up and no longer be silent.

“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:2-6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

2. Supernatural boldness released into the church of God.
Peter went from being a man in love with Jesus but full of fear to being a man in love with Jesus and full of courage, filled with the Holy Spirit. The same is possible for the church.

“But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:14-15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

3. Every generation will serve the Lord.

The power of the Holy Spirit cannot be released unless the generations, young and old, come together in honour and submission to one another.

“‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:17-18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The Holy Spirit is given to us and resides in us for the greater works Jesus called us to. (John 14:12)
