2 Kings 4: 8-37
The lady in this story from the Old Testament is from Shunem. An identified but influential woman who became a part of God’s plan.

Women in this time did not have many rights that modern women have. Yet she was a blessing to those around her with her great wealth.

verses 8-17
– this woman is married and can’t have children but did not live in regret.
– She searched for ways to bless others
– this woman blessed Elisha because she discerned that he was a man of God who could impact people
– she even made a comfortable room for Elisha to stay in when he would be in town
– the husband was blessed by this woman and agreed to build the room probably from their good relationship
– the woman blessed people purely out of a heart to bless people.
– God looks for such people who will bless without an ulterior motive and will bless them in their time of need of a miracle
– Elisha wanted to bless her with a child
– the woman reacted in asking Elisha not to bring her hopes
– But when God speaks to you and promises things, it is above all we could imagine. He keeps His word
– She finally became pregnant just as God promised

From this portion, we can get these points:

1. Serve faithfully with your God given talents. You will have wisdom to do well and what is right when you fear the Lord and serve Him. (Exodus 1: 15-21)

verses 18-30
– the child grew with much love and affection
– the boy suddenly dies. The blessing and promise is suddenly taken
– She could have questioned God or regretted this moment but didn’t. We should not regret our past
– She carried the boy to the prophet Elisha’s bed and locked the door. She wanted her faith to be intact from the circumstances of announcing the boy’s death
– She still said it was well despite the circumstances. As a child of God we can experience a peace that passes all understanding
– She went to seek Elisha at Mount Carmel. She took a step of faith to go from Shunem to Mount Carmel
– Our journey from Shunem to Mount Carmel isn’t easy but don’t give up and let go of faith

From this portion, we can get these points:

1. Take your first step of faith
2. Our answers lie with God. Seek Him

verses 34-35
– Elisha returns with her and lays on the boys body and prays until life returned to the boy

From this portion, we can get these points:

1. Pray until life returns to that situation we are facing

We can declare over out situations that it is well for the glory of God.
