Looking Unto Jesus, The Author and Finisher of our Faith
In looking unto Jesus as the Author and Finisher of faith is to set our mind on Him.
Colossians 3: 1-2 reveals the first step, that is to set our mind on Jesus.
Purpose of the message:
As the new season is dawning on us, may we look up to Jesus as our friend. It is time to take our relationship with Jesus to intimacy and then to friendship. (Proverbs 18:24, Proverbs 17:17)
Have we taken our relationship with Jesus to a place of friendship?
In John 15:15 Jesus calls us friends.
We are called to be friends of God; the creator of heaven and earth is looking down to have friendship with you.
Acts 4:13 showed how the disciples were perceived as being with Jesus (friends of Jesus.)
This friendship would increase the level of our commitment and intimacy.
Any relationship with Jesus without friendship is empty relationship.
Three Things About the Friendship with Jesus
1. He wants to be our best friend (John 15:13)
2. He is a friend who is always for us
3. His attention is always for us.
There are two avenues that God uses to grow friendship with us:
1. Attitude of obedience. Obedience builds friendship with God. (John 15: 14-15, Genesis 12: 1-3, James 2:23, Proverbs 4:21-22)
2. The private space. There are some things that belongs to you and Jesus. A place where we can pour all that we are without judgment and fear and open our heart out to Him. Psalms are filled with the conversations of David with God in the private space. (Matthew 6:6) Jesus understands the most even when no else does.
