Milestones (Of Faith)
Text:
What are milestones?
In simple terms, milestones were used to measure distance.
Another term for milestones is an important stage in development and growth.
One way to determine our growth in faith is that we can look back at our milestones of faithfulness.
This looking back at milestones is nothing new. Even in the Old Testament, the history of the people is recounted by the Psalmists to remind them of the faithfulness of God to them.
Look at our own lives. What are some milestones that show who God is and what He has done in our lives?
[Joshua 4: 1-3, 20-24]
Joshua is taking over the leadership of Israel after the passing of Moses. They were crossing over into the promise land and into a new season, over the river Jordan.
Much like us, we don’t know what lies ahead but it’s a new season that we are crossing over into.
In the same way that Joshua set up milestones where they crossed over the river Jordan, we are encouraged to do two things.
1. Find the milestones of God’s faithfulness. Reflect back on the faithfulness of God in our lives and remember His faithfulness.
2. Set up a visible reminder of these milestones. To remind ourselves of God’s faithfulness. To remember what we went through, both good and bad, where God remained faithful to us.
Joshua 4:21 shows that these reminders give us not only a way to remember His faithfulness, but an opportunity also to tell of God’s faithfulness to others who see these reminders.
We become a witnesses of God’s faithfulness through our lives and stories.(Acts 1:8, Roman 10:14)
Let’s thank God for all these milestones of His faithfulness in our lives.
